Blood's Price

Great news!! Blood's Price has been accpeted by Absolute X-Press! Here is an unedited blurb and excerpt.
Though this is NOT my cover, who can resist a photo of Jay Tavare?? HMM?? Not I!!

Blurb:
Two cultures, two lives, one path.
Rendered helpless, captured and stripped, Elizabeth Smythe is taken away from her privileged life and everything she knows. Her captor, Spirit Walker, treats her with gentle compassion, winning her trust and love. Elizabeth discovers Spirit Walker is so much more then just a strong man and beautiful Earth Spirit.
When Spirit Walker receives word a woman he admires has been given to a neighboring tribe to dispose of, he rescues her. Despite not knowing who or what he is, she shows neither fear nor weakness toward him or her fate. Her strength earns his respect and more important, his heart. Opposition from both of their cultures tries to separate them. Can their love withstand the heat?

Excerpt:
Thick darkness shrouded the world in a stifling and sticky blanket. The ink of night replaced the sweltering heat of the sun, offering little respite. The temperature seemed unaffected by any shift in the earth’s cycles this time of year and not a breath of air stirred the heavy atmosphere. Despite the humid night, a small fire snapped and hissed, struggling to burn the damp, moss-covered logs in the center of a large copse of thick trees. The dancing firelight within a small circle of stones cast it’s eerie flicker, warding off the darkness in it’s small space. Acrid smoke hung in the air, held down by the heavy canopy of leaves and evergreen boughs far above.
Elizabeth Smythe struggled to raise her head, but the agony of it made everything spin and her belly knot in a painful clench. A primal sense prickled over her, foretelling of danger. Despite the pain, she remained quiet and still, listening to the sharp voices around her with clouded confusion. With her chin low, touching her bare, sweat-slicked chest, she dared only to take shallow breaths. Fear kept her motionless, too afraid to move lest she be discovered awake. Foggy awareness slid through her mind as her senses began to awaken and her heavy, grainy lids fluttered to moisten her eyes. She moved her lips in an effort to moisten her mouth and found her thick tongue as dry as her cracked lips.
Foreign and angry sounding words bickered around her. Moving her head as little as possible, she craned her eyes as far as she dared to see. Golden light flickered over naked torsos and faces, illuminating and distorting appearances that bright paint disguised even further. Her blood ran cold and she couldn’t help the fear squeezing the gasp from her lungs. Biting her lower lip to fight back the sob was all she could do without being noticed. Bare thighs crouched around the small circle of smoking flames, some stood in breechcloths behind, guarding their brethren from within the heavier shadows. Terrifying colors of war paint around hard, glittering eyes, marked their dangerous intent as each moved with lethal and lithe grace.
Elizabeth closed her eyes again, letting her head drop down further. She had heard stories, awful stories, of what could happen to a young woman. Her mind ached as she tried to recall how she had gotten here, and why. There was too much pain, too much confusion and all she could draw upon was a blank memory.
Blinking, she lifted her eyes again, this time a little further, to watch the preoccupied men. A pouch handed over to a large warrior with broad shoulders seemed to satisfy him enough to quiet the banter going on among them. He examined the contents, drew the pouch closed and tied it to his breechcloth’s belt. He stood and the others followed. Elizabeth quickly diverted her eyes and dropped her chin. The voices began to die down quickly, along with the fire, and the men began dwindling away, one by one. Uncertainty was the only thing left for her. What were they going to do with her? Would they kill her? How? Why?

Edits on a Magick Monday

Just to keep edits in line today, I've posted my inspiration. So far it is going well! Getting great feedback on the snippets I've posted, and by that I mean they were well liked. I still have work to do on it though. Need to weave in some threads and fill a few holes with dropped threads, but it is a beautiful tapestry, I must say, and it is sailing along nicely.

Have a very Magick Monday!

To Boldly Go

This picture is from the movie UnBowed. The three men in this picture are Mark Abott, Jay Tavare and Vincent McLean. It looks like a very good love story.

Worked on the last chapter last night. Will have to do it again because it downright sucks. *sigh* I think I need to step away from it for the day. Going out with my MIL, whom I adore. Should be a great day.

Happy Thursday!

Soooo Close!

Today's Inspiration. I think it speaks for it's self. Not a lot of words needed.

I am so close to being finished. I was hoping to complete things yesterday, but fell short. I am on the last chapter and have an Epilogue to do. Then my rough draft is finished. I think this story is teaching me. I now have a clear understanding of what I need to do to make it a whole and beautiful story with no holes. I have to admit, the ending came as a surprise to me. I didn't see where it was going until I was working on it yesterday. Things happened that I had not planned and it is better because of it.

Well, it is never going to get done if I am just sitting here.

Happy Hump day!

Tuesday's Twaddle

Here is today's inspiration!
It's been working, I tell ya. Yesterday I wrote a chapter and a half! I only had to stop because my poor children were hungry. Since they come first, I had to stop. Then clean up after dinner (and I don't have a dishwasher. Well, I do, it me! But having my hands in all those warm soapy bubbles is oddly one of my 'think times'.), and threw the ball to my little doggie for a bit. Then my mom called and I acutally sat down on the couch. After that, it was all over with. I sat there with my kids and watched the Country music competition show. Its getting down to the wire. Only one more show left. I'm not a die hard country fan, but there are some songs I like.
Then off to bed to read a bit from Robert Jordan.

You know, today is going to be a good day, no matter what. You know why? The sun isn't shining!! :D My silver skies are back and the warm air smells dank and heavy of rain. I am hoping... The rain would do the blackberry bushes good. The blossoms have all set and the hard green berries are emerging from the center of white petals. I am hopeful there too. It's been two years since we have had berries even worthy of jam making. They have been bitter and tiny. I am fortunate that I have a giant twelve foot hedge of them. It's the best fence ever.

Happy Tuesday!

Magick Monday

Just in to post a little inspiration for my day. Hope everyone has equal Magick in theirs.
This imagery has helped so much.I cannot believe it. I got a whole chapter written yesterday and the story is now progressing. I'm hoping it is as smooth today. I am just so close to finishing I can taste it. And, I have to add, that none of it is filler BS either. It's the discovery of the evil mastermind behind all of this. He's a sick-o if you ask me. But then again, I'm just the meek and mild writer. I am my Muse's pet and she is kind of a whip cracker, I tell ya. But I love her! hehe

Today, I think we can honestly say that summer has blossomed. The morning is warm golden and still. Some Turkey Vultures have been flying around, circling the neighbors field. Such huge and graceful creatures. I think they are in on something with the ravens and crows. The ravens are following them, probably looking for an easy meal. I've seen the vultures land in the field and the crows with them. They gathered in a circle around them and the vultures just sat there for a very long time. There was no kill or anything, they looked to be just resting. I watched them through the binoculars until my eyes ached. But then, I've seen these ravens and crows hold what looked like court, as well. A large flock of them landed in this same field. I am guessing there had to be at least 14 to 15 on the ground. They gathered in a large circle and one was in the center. They posed with unusual quiet and then one by one, they flew up into the air and pecked the one in the center before taking off, until he was left standing alone. He sat there for a long time, alone. He walked around and finally just left. But, these creatures are amazing and so intelligent. But of course my favorite are the birds of prey. Owls in particular. I love the Falcon that comes and tries to use my bird feeders as a snack bar, and the naughty Stellar Jays that tease him. A true lesson in poise and grace. But also a lesson in the Zen arts. I take Hyde's (from That 70's Show)stance on this one. When Zen Ends, Ass Kickin' Begins.

I think I will end on that one. Have a Magick Monday!!

Sometimes it's more then you think.

Sometimes beauty is more then just in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes it helps pull a frustrated writer's mind out of a quagmire and back onto the path to complete the journey.

I have been stuck for the last several, and very frustrating, weeks! Mind you, it isn't writers block, I know what I want down on the page. Just a stopping up of the inspiration, if you will. I knew I needed something visual. There are so many beautiful faces out there to select from. But none that fit what I had in my head. That was until I was browsing a friends site and she had this posted. I stopped so fast, I may have left two little furrows on her page, sorry 'bout that! :D
That's right, Jay Tavare's image grabbed my attention only the way a pair of brown eyes can. But then the next step is to see WHO he is. I have to pause, because 'beautiful' is all that comes to mind.

He is everything I have been writing in Blood's Price and I am just stunned. He has even portrayed a character named Spirit Walker. I am sure it is a common name, but I have reasons why my character is named that and it is going to stay that way now.
The very first thing that appealed to me was that he is part of the Adopt An Elder program. This foundation helps the elderly tribes people. On his website, there are many pictures of him just 'being' with them. There is such joy radiating from everyone there, it is very touching. I believe in my heart that there is not enough being done to help our elderly and veterans. But I'm not getting into that today, but so much knowledge is being lost.

ALSO, he rescues dogs and wolves. Any of you out there that knows me, doesn't even have to second guess why this appeals to me on a huge level. I just cannot add anymore to that.
Here is Mr. Tavare's website, for anyone interested. It's a lovely place to visit! www.jaytavare.com.

So, with my inspiration renewed, I am off to resume my journey with this story. And quite possibly go looking for a certain number of films that may just put me in a coma. Because a girl can only handle a certain amount of eye candy before she drops, right? Hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm willing to try. :D

Happy Saturday!
